Buckskin Gulch Lion

Buckskin Gulch Lion

A very unique phenomenon in northern Arizona is the slot canyons carved in the sandstone by water, sand, rocks and wind. The light and rocks take shape in the form of a roaring lion. The Buckskin Gulch gets its name from the buckskin colors and is a “rougher” slot canyon because the debris that falls into the canyon from above includes large and small rocks. When the rains come and rage through this canyon, the rocks can pound the surfaces of the canyon which leaves them rougher than other similar slot canyons.
